Debian e eu
Eu estou começando a considerar a possibilidade de talvez tentar pensar em reavaliar meu ódio pelo debian.
Usei Slackware por uns bons anos, mas hoje uso Gentoo para a maioria das coisas.
O Gentoo, do seu jeito, me dá uma sensação de controle parecida com a que o Slackware me dava.
O Debian por outro lado, parece que me tira esse controle. A sensação é como se eu tivesse que jogar fora boa parte do que sei sobre bind, X, apache, postfix etc e aprender tudo novamente na maneira Debian.
Não consigo engolir a idéia de instalar um servidor e ele aotumaticamente ser iniciado.
Também não gosto da idéia dos pacotes virem com configurações próprias pro debian, diferentes das confs originais do criador do programa.
Fora isso, para um iniciante EM DEBIAN, uma dúvida muito comum é “Qual raio de nome os caras botaram pra porra do pacote xxx ?”
Aí quero instalar o driver da nvidia e tem nvidia-glx, nvidia-glx-new, nvidia-glx-new-2.6.24, nvidia-frufru, nvidia-essedevefuncionar e etc. E no final, só existe um que funciona.
E como saber como os programas foram compilados ? O postfix tá com suporte a ldap, spf, dovecot e mysql ??
Aí descobre que tem o postfix, postfix-ldap, postfix-mysql etc.
Bom, se o portage continuar o bunda-lê-lê que tá, talvez eu pense em testar novamente o debian.
De qualquer forma, sempre quiz fazer uma experiência:
Instalar duas máquinas, um debian e um gentoo com varios servicos configurados e ver qual delas se quebra primeiro com atualizações.
Se eu me emputecer com o Gentoo e com o Debian, volto pro Slackware.

Agora, eu lidei uns 4 meses ou mais com Debian nos cursos que fiz.. e o repositório deles é muito obscuro mesmo.. hehe

Então bem vindo ao clube, pois cada dia que passa, penso em voltar a usar o slackão e deixar o resto pra lá! Cada dia que passa, as distros ficam cada vez mais bichadas e eu que preciso de produtividade, num posso ficar dependendo dos outros pra poder realizar o meu trabalho.
O slack é bem simples e pode-se fazer de tudo nele, tem um grupo que está criando o slackports, um repositório de slackbuilds para compilar e instalar programas.
Estou pensando seriamente em abandonar o linux e ficar só no BSD mas o suporte a hardware ainda peca e muito para notebooks.
